To Win, We Need to Lose.
That’s the tagline from the new HBO Documentary, “The Weight Of The Nation.” It couldn’t be more true – almost 69% of American’s are obese or overweight.
The documentary, released in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (notice that it’s the CDC, not some nutritional council), takes aim at what is wrong with our nation’s bellies, but also how to fix it. You can log in with Facebook to take action and pledge to make changes in your life, your family and your community. It will be interesting to see what comes of this documentary.
A couple of interesting tidbits from the site:
- In the 25 years between 1987 and 2010, the number of American’s diagnosed with diabetes almost tripled to 20.9 million. Type 2 Diabetes costs our healthcare system $174 billion a year.
- 40% of every dollar spent on food is spent on food prepared outside the home.
- The obese workforce costs American business an estimated $73.1 billion per year.
- Obese persons spend 77% more on necessary medications than non-obese people.
